Qlik offers a free version of QlikView for personal use. It is meant for individuals, students, or small start-ups. QlikView Personal Edition is the full QlikView Desktop product and uses the same installation package. The only difference is that QlikView Personal Edition runs without a license key.

If at any point you or your organization decides to acquire a full QlikView license, this Personal Edition installation will automatically become a full QlikView Desktop without requiring any additional software and without any changes to your QlikView documents.

There are no limitations in terms of time or functionality in QlikView Personal Edition, however there are a few aspects to observe regarding the handling of QlikView documents. In QlikView Personal Edition, every document is saved with a user key that binds that file to the computer it is created on. This implies:

• QlikView Personal Edition can only open files created using that particular copy of QlikView. This means, with QlikView Personal Edition you cannot use your QlikView documents on different computers, you cannot share your QlikView documents with another unregistered user, or open a QlikView document from another user (exempted are documents specially prepared for personal use by Qlik). However, documents created in QlikView Personal Edition can be used with a licensed copy of QlikView Desktop and they can also be published on a QlikView Server.
• You cannot import an entire document layout (sheets/objects/security settings, etc. in XML format, without the data) into QlikView Personal Edition.

Should you change computers, you will not be able to open your previously created documents with QlikView Personal Edition. In this case, you can choose to recover your files. Recovering files means a new user key is generated, assigned to the old document and used for all subsequent files, not only for that particular file. After recovering a file, you can no longer use it on the computer that you created it in.

QlikView will accept 4 user key changes in a document. After that, you will get the error message “Key length has reached its maximum” and the document will not open any more. The only possibility is to recreate it from scratch.

Therefore, you should not recover QlikView documents that you did not create (from a forum or from a colleague, etc.). Doing so will use one of your remaining recovery attempts.

As a user of QlikView Personal edition you can upgrade the software to a newer version at any time and continue working with your documents. New versions may be downloaded from the QlikView website installed on the existing computer.

Do the following:

1. Go to the Qlik website.
2. In the top right, click Log In. Log in with a registered customer or partner account.

3. In the main menu, go to Support > Product Downloads & Upgrades.

4. Click the Get Started button. In the main menu, click QlikView.

5. Use the left-hand menu to filter your options.

It can be installed on Qlik NPrinting Server or Qlik NPrinting Engine computers, or on another computer. Qlik NPrinting Designer retrieves information from the Qlik NPrinting repository. It can only be launched from Qlik NPrinting web console. You must install Microsoft Office if you want to develop Excel, Word or PowerPoint templates. No additional software is required to develop QlikEntity, PixelPerfect or HTML templates with Qlik NPrinting.

Qlik NPrinting Designer installs Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2. It must not be uninstalled.

.NET framework version 4.7.2 is installed when you install Qlik NPrinting Server, Qlik NPrinting Engine, or Qlik NPrinting Designer. The installation of .NET framework version 4.7.2 requires an active internet connection. If .NET framework version 4.7.2 or later is not already installed on a computer without an internet connection, the installation will fail. You must install the .NET framework version 4.7.2 or later on computers without and internet connection before you install Qlik NPrinting Server, Qlik NPrinting Engine, or Qlik NPrinting Designer.If an internet connection is not available on a computer with .NET framework version 4.7.2 or later already installed, the installer will skip this part of the installation.

• You cannot run Qlik NPrinting Designer as a stand-alone application. Qlik NPrinting Designer must be used with Qlik Sense or QlikView.
• To move from one version of Qlik NPrinting Designer to another, you must uninstall the older version before installing Qlik NPrinting Designer. See: Uninstalling Qlik NPrinting Designer.
• You cannot install Qlik NPrinting Designer 17 on the same computer as the Qlik NPrinting Designer 16.
• Qlik NPrinting Designeris not compatible with Microsoft Office 365 web or mobile. It is compatible with Microsoft Office 365 desktop.

Download QlikNPrintingDesigner_x64.exe from the Qlik Download Site.

Installing Qlik NPrinting Designer

Do the following:

1. Double-click QlikNPrintingDesigner_x64.exe to launch the setup.
2. On the Qlik NPrinting Designer Setup Welcome screen, click Next.
3. Accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
4. On the Destination Folder screen, click Change if you want to install to a folder other than the default, and click Next.
5. On the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install.
6. If the User Account Control window appears, click Yes to proceed.
7. Click Finish.
